- Atlantic agronomy workshop planned for Stanley Bridge
- Dr. Kerry MacQuarrie will give the opening address, "Water Beneath our Feet: Understanding the Ground Water Resource," at an Atlantic Agrology Workshop held July 20-22 at the Stanley Bridge Resort. The theme of the workshop is developing a sustainable water footprint, and delegates to the workshop will be able to attend concurrent sessions. George Somers will talk about the effect of nutrient losses in ground water, Dr. Erin Smith will give a presentation on how weather in Atlantic Provinces impact agriculture. A second set of concurrent sessions will include Yefang Jiang on modelling the impacts of groundwater extraction, Dr. Adam Fenech will about climate change. Third session topics will include Steve Watts on the 4Rs of fertilizer use and Joyce & Dr. Robert Coffin will speak about plant breeding strategies for changing climates and reduced inputs. Anthony Hopkins will give an address on irrigation methods in his home in UK. Other activities will include a tour of Prince Edward Aqua Farms, Technology Crops International, and Cavendish Farms-Research. Dr. Larry Martin will give the evening lecture, "Economic and Future Insights on Agriculture." Tuesday morning session will include Dr. Gordon Price presenting "Emerging Water Quality Management Concerns in Agro-Ecosystems and Beyond," Anthony Hopkins will discuss irrigation techniques and trends. The conference will conclude with a panel session led by Ian Petrie.
