- Restaurant group wants to meet Harper on foreign workers ban
- Restaurants Canada are requesting an emergency meeting with Prime Minister Harper on the issue of foreign temporary workers within the restaurant industry in Canada. The federal government placed a moratorium on the food service industry while it conducts a review of abuses of the Program. Restaurants Canada president and CEO Garth Whyte states that this has turned the labour shortage into a crisis. The industry group is promoting a three point plan which includes an immediate end to the moratorium, strengthening rules of the program, and allowing restaurant owners to hire foreign workers at all skill levels for which there is a shortage. Restaurants Canada Chair and local business owner, Liam Dolan notes that "restaurant owners and their employees are feeling more and more pressure each day this moratorium continues."
