Abstract

Follows up on a letter to the editor written by Stan Sandler (a beekeeper from Murray River) and published in Island Farmer on May 17 2017. Sandler claims that the provincial government's decision to allow the import of beehives from Ontario could cause the spread of the small hive beetle to Island hives. Includes a response from the provincial Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Alan MacIsaac who maintains that the inspection measures in place for hives coming from Ontario are strict enough the Island's honey bee population.
