Abstract

[Editorial] The UPEI Climate Research Lab just held a meeting in North Rustico. The editorial emphasizes the changes in climate and having the highest recorded temperatures in 25 years in June 2014. Sea leve rising, coastal erosion, storm surges, all will impact coastal communities and their infrastructure. With storm surges, North Rustico recently moved their sewer treatment plant to higher ground. The Fire Hall may also need to be moved. Roads may also be underwater which may limit access and many homes or cottages located near the shore may also be in danger. The dune system has many gaps near the Cavendish National Park Campground as they were decimated by wind and water. The writer lets readers know that nature may take its course and they need to be prepared.
