Abstract
Six Island students were medal winners at the National Skills Canada Competition held in early June. The winners were Jacob Gallant, Dane Cutcliffe, Jordan MacLean, Isaiah Jabbour, Stephen Simpson and Joshua Hay. This was the second time that Jacob Gallant participated in the Nationals and he took the medal in cabinet making. He indicated that taking part increased his self confidence. The gala closing ceremony was attended by over 2,000 people including industry leaders. Minister Jason Kenney talked about the need for skilled workers and talked about the government's support for apprenticeship programs and the Skills Canada program. PEI students can take part in next provincial competition in March 2015 [includes photograph].
