Better cows mean better lives in Kenya

Abstract

Dr. Shauna Richards, a PhD student from UPEI, is part of a delegation (which includes participants from Farmers Helping Farmers, the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), and Veterinarians without Borders Canada) that is working with farmers in Kenya to explore ways to improve the health of their dairy cows. The group has produced a "Handbook for Kenya Dairy Farmers" that is aiding local farmers in increasing their milk production. On this trip Dr. Richards will focus on cow shelters to measure if improvements in comfortable housing for cattle will result in greater milk production.
