Easter calls for government action on spent fowl imports

Abstract

Malpeque MP Wayne Easter criticized the government for the unprecedented import of spent hens into Canada from the United States. The Canadian Border Services Agency allowed 213 million pounds of spent fowl into Canada jeopardizing supply management for chickens and displacing ten percent of Canadian chicken production. Easter noted this bypassed Canada's import controls and farmers are hurt while consumers are misled stated Easter.
