Abstract
Dynamic Outcomes Consulting was hired by the PEI Certified Organic Producers Cooperative (PEICOPC) to help the organization to identify priorities for its strategic planning. The consultancy group conducted interviews with a cross-section of PEICOPC membership and presented its report at the co-op's annual meeting. Feedback from the AGM discussion was incorporated into their final report. Recommendations included: PEICOPC develop closer links with the Atlantic Canada Organic Regional Network (ACORN); PEICOPC should explore the "Research Coordination Program" offered by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as other industry groups that provide support funding opportunities for research; and PEICOPC should direct its lobbying efforts toward both elected officials and the Department of Agriculture. The consultants recommended that key messages be to be communicated include: The need to provide the organic sector with adequate funding to ensure continued growth; additional financial support for the PEICOPC, and the need for certification regulations to be approved. Dynamic Outcomes Consulting also suggested that the organization develop a "go to" website for both current organic producers and those looking to make the switch to organic.
