Abstract

Editorial [Byline column] All 184 milk producers on Prince Edward Island have implemented The Canadian Quality Milk Program. Dairy farmers have implemented a ten-year-plan proAction which is a six pronged initiative that is industry led. The industry is challenged with implementation of the Trans-pacific Partnership and Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) due to challenges around protecting supply management and the increased importation of European cheese. The United States and New Zealand that they want to eliminate supply management in Canada. Crop insurance payments have increased on Prince Edward island over the past two years due to wireworm crop damage. PEI has one of the highest percentages of acreages covered by crop insurance.
