Abstract

Erik Dorff of Statistics Canada compares horticultural data from the 2011 Census of Agriculture to figures from the 1941 census. The results show that today's technology makes possible a greater mix of commodities and that there has been a greater effort in recent years to match production to consumer demand. The emergence of mechanical methods of harvesting have facilitated the rapid growth of the wild blueberry and cranberry industries.
