Pilot project allows forest harvesting in buffer zones

Abstract

Under a new provincial initiative, forest harvesters will not require a permit to harvest trees in environmental buffer zones for the specific purpose of enhancing these areas. Enhancement activities may include measures to increase species diversity, to promote wildlife corridors, to increase forest health and habitat, or to restore Acadian forest. Any forest cutting must be carried out by hand and the area will be subject to inspection and audit by Agriculture and Forestry staff.
