Abstract

Opposition Agriculture Critic Colin LaVie and Agriculture and Forestry Minister George Webster debate whether government should provide additional financial support to a crop insurance program that offers producers coverage for wireworm damage. In response to LaVie's comments about programs in place in other locations, Webster notes that fumigants being used in the US to battle the problem are not approved for use in Canada and that a Canadian solution to controlling the pest will probably be found through use of biocrops.
