MacKinnon family farm goes back six generations
Abstract
Salute to Agriculture [supplement to The Island Farmer, April 16, 2014}. Sandy Rae Farm in Brooklyn which began in 1859 has been home to six generations of the Dannie MacKinnon Family. It is now being operated by him and his wife Christine and their children, Alex and Christine Sarah. Dannie's father grew seed potatoes, raised chickens, pigs and a few beef cattle and by 1972 they turned toward dairy farming. The MacKinnons currently milk 70 registered black and white Holsteins, and they grow all their forages. Sandy Rae Farm is also a 4-H Family farm. This is a profile as part of a series on PEI family farms as part of the 2014 International Year of Family Farming.
