Agriculture Committee calls for transportation help for hog industry

Abstract

The Standing Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, Energy and Environment recommends the province provide funding support towards transportation costs faced by PEI hog farmers. Due to the absence of a local processing facility, PEI hog producers must ship their hogs to Quebec, which adds approximately $12/hog above what other Canadian hog farmers pay on average for transportation.
