Abstract
A three-year Bio Talent Canada program, Connect and Advance Women in Biotech, was recently announced by Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Federal Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women Canada. The Women in Biotech PEI event took place in Charlottetown following the recent funding announcement. PEI BioAlliance hosted the event and Rose Fitzpatrick from PEI BioAlliance stated the event could "go a long way in providing some direction, inspirations and connections for interested women." A subsection of the article entitled "Five women talk about their profession and the growing biotech companies they represent" provides profiles and insights into the biotech industry. These women include: Heather Delage, BBA, Vice President Business Development, Bio Vectra Inc., PEI; Crystal Lavallee, MSc, MBA, President, ViTRAK Systams, Inc.,PEI; Debbie Plouffe, PhD, Vice President Research, Centre for Aquaculture Technologies on PEI, based in Fortune; Crystal MacFadyen, BSc., Associate Scientist, Aqua Analytics Division, Novartis Mental Health Canada inc., Victoria, PEI and Jackalina Van Kampen, PhD, Director Preclinical Research, Neurodyn Inc. & Adjunct Professor, Department of Biomedical Sciences, UPEI.
