Island filmmakers update
Abstract
Jenna MacMillan's short film "In a While" and Kyle Simpson's documentary "Beard Life" were selected for the 2014 NSI Online Short Film Festival. Andrew MacCormack's short film "Here and Away" won the Audience Award at the 2013 Island Media Arts Festival and was screened as part of Air Canada's enRoute Film Festival. The film was also picked up by PBS and available on their online channel. Justin O'Hanley's humorous short film "No Parking" was screened at the 2013 Atlantic Film Festival and licensed to air on CBC in December 2013. Millefiore Clarkes's "Island Green," produced by the National Film Board has had over a dozen screenings since its 2013 release and generated an interview of Clarke by Jian Ghomeshi on CBC's "Q" radio/television program. Mark Sandiford's satirical documentary "Qallunaat! Why White People are Funny" went viral in late January 2014 when its online streaming link was shared on the NGB website. A comedic web series, "Just Passing Through," created by Jeremy and Jason Larter and Geoff Read premiered online and featured many Island actors and production workers; a second season is in production. Millefiore Clarkes and Jason Arsenault are currently in production with "Where the Heart Is," a documentary about Newfoundland town facing relocation by the government
