Abstract
A brief survey of Island-wide special art projects marking the PEI 2014 Sesquicentennial of the Public Art Collection program; Projects mentioned : PEI Council of the Arts' selection of 23 artists commissioned to produce commemorative works; City of Charlottetown's project entitled "Commemorative Art Projects Come to Life;" Town of Stratford funds a Diversity Fountain and statue of famous Island aboriginal athlete, Michael Thomas for a waterfront park location; Community of Hunter River's project "History is Art;" Town of Montague will sponsor "Paint it Beautiful 2014 Plein-Air FEstival" and will create a new public art trail, "Art Works Here;" West Royalty Elementary School will create a historical montage that will become part of a permanent school display; the Kensington Art Co-op's "Paint the Shed" project will depict Kensington area history on the train station's freight shed; Abram Village's Fierté de notre village project's Acadian cultural murals; a pictorial history of shipbuilding will be painted on a building in Souris; an expanded version of the annual Art in the Open event will incorporate the theme "Transforming Tomorrow;" St. Peter's Bay will unveil their Frank Ledwell Literary Legacy project will include a first showing of artist Susan Christensen's painting inspired by PEI Poet Laureate Frank Ledwell
