Seniors' housing for seniors : a feasibility study

abstract: Converting single-family detached houses, owned and occupied by seniors, to create
secondary suites can have potential benefits for seniors and the neighbourhoods in which
they live. The objectives of this study were to: estimate the interest of senior
homeowners in converting their current homes to create secondary suites; outline the
financial and renovation implications of conversion; and identify the regulations and
zoning which affect conversion. Findings are based on interviews with senior households
and group discussions with builders, real estate specialists and City officials.
