Impact of the 2010 winter Olympic Games on the Vancouver and Sea-toSky housung markets
Description
abstract: Cities are increasingly using mega events such as the Olympic Games to enhance short-
and long-term economic opportunities and to raise their international profile. The 2010
Winter Olympic Games will be co-hosted by Vancouver and Whistler, in British Columbia.
The purpose of this research is to estimate the impact of these Games on the region and
its sub-regional housing markets. Key findings indicate that the impact of the Games
will be relatively modest at both the region wide and Lower Mainland level, with greater
relative impacts being felt in the much smaller Squamish-Lillooet Regional
District.
