Physical and chemical data from the Canada Basin, August 2004
Description
abstract: The physical and chemical water properties of the Arctic Ocean's Canada Basin
were measured during a Joint Ocean Ice Study (JOIS) expedition aboard the CCGS Louis S.
St-Laurent from 29 July - 2 September, 2004 (Institute of Ocean Sciences Mission Number
2004-16). The objectives of the program was to investigate the storage of freshwater in
the Beaufort Gyre, water mass and circulation, the inter-annual variability of water
properties, and the distribution and concentration of bacteria and zooplankton. This
report provides a summary of all science activities together with data collected from
CTD/rosette casts. The CTD data consists of pressure, temperature, salinity, oxygen,
transmission and fluorescence sensor data and the bottle data include salinity, oxygen,
nutrients, 0, barium, chlorophyll a and bacteria. Sampling and analytical methods are
described. Other samples collected but not included in this report are also listed.
